Coming soon - Mr. Ito, the twisted mind behind Silent Hill's disturbing images, talks to us about what goes into the design of the series' monsters.

CLOSER

Where you can find them: Pretty much everywhere, I'm afraid, except for cramped spaces underground like in the sewers.

Strengths: They are basically the Underhangers from Silent Hill 2, but walking above ground. They have long blades that protrude from their arms. Try not to get tag-teamed.

Weaknesses: They're slow to move which makes them easy to avoid. I just run around them, when I'm not barbequing them with the flamethrower, he he.

Best tactics: Save your ammo and avoid them. They take a long time to register which direction you are in relation to them, so most of the time, you can be on the other side of them by the time they attack. If you want to kill them, any weapon will do, but I recommend firearms over melee weapons.

PENDULUM

I first mistook this demon for a giant insect, due to it's shape in the dark and the strange, grinding sound it makes. However, upon getting too close a couple of times...youch! I realized that these are actually bodies hanging from the ceiling...its arms and legs replaced with sharp metal spears.

Where you can find them: Central Square Shopping Center, Underpass, Sewers, Dark Brookhaven Hospital

Strengths: These suckers move fast and don't hesitate to reach out and smack you a good one. Get more than one on you and oooh, mommy!

How to defeat them: I usually try to avoid them altogether. If one or more is blocking my way, the shotgun works wonders. The flamethrower does, too, but I just like using that on everything...

DOUBLEHEAD

Location: Everywhere, sorry.

Strengths: They move fast and lunge at Heather from across the room. They latch on to her legs and don't let go.

Weaknesses: Their speed makes it a struggle for them to change direction quickly. They're suckers for beef jerky!

Hint: Try to make it run or leap past you, all the while shooting it. Remember that R2 now allows Heather to automatically face her enemies, so use that to your advantage.

INSANE CANCER
Or FAT BOY, as I call these guys.

Where to find them: Subway, underpass, construction site

Strengths: He gets up and pounds Heather on the head. He's so big he takes up the entire pathway, so there really is no running around him. You have to fight.

How to defeat them: Well, first of all, all Insane Cancer demons start by sleeping on the floor until they sense you. They are a little slow to get up, so as soon as he does, start shooting! I find that the shotgun works well.

SLURPER

Where to find them: Climbing the walls of the Dark Central Square shopping mall, Dark Brookhaven Hospital and taking care of the Final Boss...

Strengths: Funny thing is, I've never been attacked by one, have you? They seem to be more of part of the ambiance of the scene, than anything. You can tell a slurper by his tell-tale job of turning wheels.

How to defeat them: Again, I've never been attacked by one, so I wouldn't worry about them too much.

NUMB BODY

Where to find them: Pretty much everywhere.

Strengths: These guys come in two sizes - mom and baby. The babies pack a wallop with their strong tails and powerful leaps. But when you kill one off, be aware that a much larger one usually shows up!

How to defeat them: Don't let them corner you, or they'll beat you to death. I recommend the Maul for this job, it gives you good reach from around corners and still doesn't let them close the gap too quickly.

BOSSES - **WARNING! SPOILER WARNING!**

1) SPIT WORM - Central Square Shopping Mall
Use R2 to your full advantage. ONLY fire at the worm when it exposes its mouth! Unlike the worm boss in the first Silent Hill, you can't hurt it as it's moving away. Avoid getting run over, as Heather will just lay there for a while and it's annoying.

2) MISSIONARY - Roof of Daisy Village Apts.
This guy is fast at charging you, so I suggest employing your R1 and L1 buttons to strafe out of the way. He's fully armored when facing Heather, so blast the hell out of him when he turns to the side or away from you. I like to chase him around the roof. Don't let him face you, if at all possible.

3) LEONARD - Brookhaven Hospital
Keep moving down here, as you can't see Leonard under water. Press and hold R2 as you run, and Heather will turn to face him when he resurfaces.

4) MEMORY OF ALESSA - Lakeside Amusement Park
This guy is strange. He is not that hard to kill, but he RESURRECTS three times, each time with a bigger and more powerful weapon! My suggestion is to outgun him and chase him around the carousel. Keep moving after he dissintegrates, he will resurrect immediately!

5) GOD - Church of the Order
Awww...how cute...the Slurpers gave God a nice little hood for her head. You can't hurt her when she tucks her head into it, but she stupidly COMPLETELY exposes her head to you several times...its not as easy as it sounds, she makes it difficult by smiting you with fire in random locations. Keep blasting her in the head as soon as she exposes it.
